The Program

About

Borgo Digitale is the research platform of the Syracuse University School of Architecture program in Florence. Each semester the studio takes the historical city as its site — surveying, scanning and speculating on the Italian borgo through photogrammetry and digital tools.

Rather than the nostalgic postcard of Italy, the work renegotiates these places between their historical identity and contemporary, global values — building near-future scenarios for how we might live together in the space of the borgo.

How we work

Survey

We measure and document the existing city — its workshops, thresholds and overlooked spaces.

Scan

Photogrammetry and 3D scanning turn the borgo into data we can read, edit and reinterpret.

Speculate

From that base each group projects new scenarios, between local memory and global futures.
